Plumeware

On the quest for creating sustainable products, this project concentrated on a conscious, material driven approach to upcycling food related waste. Currently, there are huge amounts of byproducts, all results of processing meat. If not reimagined in new contexts, these byproducts- materials like bones, blood, shells, urine etc. - have no monetary purpose and only act as threats to the environment.

Plumeware is an an eco-friendly surface material, made from

upcycled feathers from chickens. Prior to this, these feathers have had no use. After discovering their enormous binding strength, we combined them with a bioplastic and created a long lasting, flexible and wet- mouldable material applicable in several functional and decorative settings.
